What PortoGreen actually is
We're not a shop, a club, or a business. PortoGreen is a reading-and-meeting project — a place where people curious about cannabis in Porto can find clear answers, meet others, and stop feeling like they're figuring it out alone.
Portugal has one of Europe's most interesting relationships with drugs: possession of small amounts was decriminalised in 2001, but cannabis is still not legal, and public consumption can still land you in trouble. That gap between "decriminalised" and "legal" is exactly why honest, local information matters.
What we do
- Write plain-English guides about the local situation
- Organise small, low-key meetups in the city
- Run an active chat group across Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal
- Point newcomers toward the right questions to ask
Where we meet
Most of our in-person activity happens outdoors and casually — around Parque da Cidade for daytime walks, Foz do Douro for sunset meetups, and quiet corners of Ribeira for evening chats. Nothing formal, nothing flashy. Just people showing up.
The law, briefly
Decriminalisation is not legalisation. In Portugal, possession of small amounts for personal use is treated as an administrative matter, not a criminal one — but public consumption, large quantities, and any form of distribution can still lead to fines or legal consequences. Our chats are careful about this, and we ask members to be too.
If you're visiting Porto and want to understand the ground rules before you arrive, the sidebar has the essentials. If you want the longer version, come into the chat and ask.
